- Use a hand building clay to create a slab size of your choice using a slab roller or rolling pin with depth guides.

- You can use a ruler and texta pen to mark guidelines if you want to give the design accurate symmetry. You can draw directly onto the clay with the texta.

- Another option is to use baking paper, tracing paper, or photocopy paper, and draw the guide with a texta onto the paper. Press this onto the clay, and the guide will be transferred onto the clay. The guide can be reused many times. The texta will burn out in the kiln.
